Welcome!

Welcome to austinagrodolce … My family and I garden with more intention and enthusiasm than allocated budget or overall design plan. It shows. Wildlife populations don't seem to notice our lack of cohesive design, they just like the native plants here. It seems by growing local we've thrown out a welcome mat. Occasionally, we're surprised at who (and what) shows up.

Something Blue

And...... something purple, something red, something orange, something white...  Give a Central Texas yard five inches of unanticipated rain and everybody gets busy in their own way.

Datura sends up a second set of blooms
Mexican Firebush
Tropical salvia
Beauty Bush berries
More berries - the mockingbirds will be thrilled
Verbena clusters

And isn't it a joy to see all the green with those blooms and berries? In April I was afraid of the approach of summer but this year is not last year.

Kat! Thanks for dropping in. And thank heavens this year is not a repeat of last year. I wasn't sure I'd recover, much less that the garden beds would.

Great photos and plant choices. The Beautyberry is already turning purple--I've noticed that around Austin. It seems a bit early, doesn't it? I also love the Mexican Firebush. I have some neighbors who inexplicably prune theirs straight across the top. No blooms, of course. Sigh.

Tina - always fun to have you drop in. I agree - I think the beauty berries are early this year. Maybe a coping mechanism for plants to reproduce quickly before the rains stop (again)?

I prune my firebush occasionally - they can get too tall - but have learned to do so in a staggered fashion that leaves room for blooms. I love the foliage colors naturally but those orange tubular flowers are what makes my knees weak!
